Anime movies to watch on Netflix (or other streaming sites)

A few anime movies worth watching on Netflix

I was recently browsing my favorite streaming services (you know which ones). Confusion and too many options led me down multiple paths. The ideal situation would be something to kill two hours or so, while not starting a whole new series. That is when I thought I’d watch something that I often overlook, due to an underwhelming trailer.

Quick tip: try not to watch trailers or the intro songs to anime, unless you want portions of the story spoiled.

Anyway, I watched a movie called “A Slient Voice” which had the vibe of a slice of life or love story anime.

“A Silent Voice” focused around the story of a shitty younger boy, who in his elementary school days teased and bullied a girl who was deaf.

Of course, this is horrible, but the story plays out in another direction. Actually, it showcases the fragility of the human spirit and that time can heal a heart.

I am not going to spoil the story for you, but it got me thinking about how many other movies I had skipped over. Browsing through countless images can be quite boring. To simplify and save you some time, here are a few:

Anything by Hayao Miyazaki or produced by Studio Ghibli to be precise.
- This would include movies like “Princess Mononoke”, “Spirited Away” and “Howl’s Moving Castle”.
Berserk the Golden Age Arc.
- This is a little gruesome and has some brutal scenes so if that is not your thing, please disregard. If you do like some action, however, you may be surprised by this. I would, however, recommend you just watch the original anime series though as the artwork is better IMO and there is more to the story, but 3 movies may make the cut.
Summer Wars.
- This is an interesting story and has some gaming vibes to it, if you are looking for something casual, I would recommend it.
The Boy and The Beast.
- This has a very cool Isekai feel to it, being the boy is taken into the Yokai, or spirit, world. I am a sucker for these types of stories and it has a good amount of folklore packed into it so give it a shot.
Lastly, Akira. Please stop skipping over it.
- It seems outdated, just from the cover art, but the story focuses on a dystopian or future world. I really like when people from the ’80s or 90’s try to depict what they believe the future will be, it often displays the mindset in which they wrote the story. Akira has its charms and maybe what you’re looking for to kill some time.
